Surgery’s Done

Posted in Cancer,Chris by sicks on February 12, 2008

Sara had her mastectomy this morning, and the doctor also removed a number of lymph nodes that contained cancer. This is what Sara had feared most, so please pray for God’s peace and comfort as we plan for chemotherapy and other treatments. She may have a PET scan soon to look for cancer in other parts of her body. Further updates will be posted here as we know more.
She was very calm and upbeat this morning when we arrived, so please pray that she would be sustained and strengthened by the Lord despite her disappointment about the lymph nodes. Many thanks, -Christopher

    Hi Sara and Chris –
I find that every time I pray for you, the message that I keep hearing God saying – that He wants me to relay to you is this: “Prepare to receive; Prepare to be blessed far above and beyond anything that you can possibly imagine.” Yesterday, as I was praying for you, I felt that He was urging me to write that to you – but I allowed myself to get distracted by homework and I didn’t post it yesterday . . .but the message is even stronger today. “Prepare to have your socks blown off by God’s goodness.” I admit that I have no clue what He is planning for you – but I just have a very strong sense of anticipation.
. . . on another note – when I had surgery, I remember saying that the experience was the best way to go through a really, really bad experience. I am praying that the next few days for you will be “the best way to go thru this bad experience” – that the nurses and technicians and doctors would offer a level of kindness and care that you never expected.

    Still praying . . .

Please know that all of us — your multitude of friends and family — will be with you every step of the way. We love you so much. I have every Friday and Monday off and would love to have a play date with Jack and the kiddos anytime so that y’all can get some rest. So just hollar! My prayers are with you! K

    Sara and Chris,

We have been praying for you throughout the day and will continue to pray that you would know and feel the steadfast love of our Father, as well as so many friends and family. We will continue to pray for complete healing and that the Lord would be your peace, comfort, rest, and hope through this journey. We love you and your precious family.

Ps. 121 “I lift up my eyes to the hills–where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip–he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you–the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm–he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”

    Love, Rachel and Curt

Sara, dear, you are one of the “rare birds” that God created and even though He has “plucked” some of your beautiful feathers, you are still beautiful and I know that this trial will just give Him an opportunity to cause another part of you to “shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the Word of life”.

“Humble yourselves under God’s mighty hand that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” 1Peter 5:6&7

I am praying that Peter’s exhortation will be a reality in your heart… that you truly would cast your anxiety on the Heavenly Father because he truly loves you and He knows what He’s doing regarding you and your precious family.
    Love you, girl,
    Annika :->

    Hi Sara and Chris,
Sara, I have not seen or spoken to you in ages…did I see you at the CSPAN Reunion…I think we ran into each other. So its been a minute. I just learned of this news (from Debbie). Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I’m deeply saddened to hear this news but hopeful that you will make a full recovery. Stay steadfast in prayer and faith. God is good…always. Hang in there!

    Hi Sara!!

The last time I saw you was at the C-SPAN reunion and if I recall correctly, you were pregnant with your third. I was pregnant with my first. I just heard your news from Monique Llanos and I have been reading your blogs. You remain positive and prayerful… your faith will get you through. Remember that “God will never give us more than we can bear.” You are in our thoughts and prayers… I am reminded of my Pastor’s recent sermon, “Whatever you’re going through, you’re going to get through.” And you will survive!
    >My cousin, who is a mother of three, was diagnosed two years ago with breast cancer. She had a successful surgery and is doing well. My aunt also had breast cancer and I have several friends who have been affected by the disease. This is a cause so close to my heart. My sister started a breast cancer foundation, pineconeinc.org, to provide educational resources to help detect breast cancer and we held a celebrity cancer benefit in LA which raised over $20,000. I’m planning to hold another one here in DC and I’d love for you to be a part of it. You have such a beautiful family. We wish you a speedy recovery! God bless you all!

    Lots of love,
    Chinyere

    Sara —

I haven’t spoken with you in eons, but I got an email from
Monique this morning with a progress update from Debbie.

I just want you and your family to know that all of you are in my prayers. I’ve read some of your blog entries and have been amazed and awed by your tremendous faith and courage. I’m not a fan of the word – survivor – although I know that you are; I prefer the word overcomer – since HE overcame the world, I know in my heart you have been enpowered to do the same thing …

    Be encouraged and steadfast ..

Keeping you and your family lifted

    All our love and prayers,
