Arg — mouth issues!

Posted in Cancer by sicks on January 20, 2011

Hey gang —

We’re still doing pretty well here mentally and emotionally with my recurrence and my treatments. We are so thankful to the Lord that everything is going so well and that chemo seems to be doing its job.

The only new (and annoying) thing is I am struggling with mouth sores, which is quite common for those going through chemo. Chemo kills the bad stuff and the good so that has caused the departure of good cells in my mouth that keep it free from sores and such. So a bit icky but I would appreciate any prayers on this front! I am trying to get a prescription filled for “magic mouthwash” –ha!– to help reduce the pain and discomfort. Hopefully that will help.

On another front, I look forward to more time with the Lord to learn what he wants to say. Things have been quite crazy on other fronts so I have not had quality time with the Lord. I would really like to spend some good time like I did 3 years during that cancer battle where I learned so much from Him. I don’t want to miss anything that the Lord would want to say.

Love to you and yours!

My dear Howie. YUCK! Praying for added healing from side effects. Interesting that the one area that can keep us from hearing Him, is affecting you. I pray for full recovery, and for you to be cancer free once and for all. As for your journey, thank you for sharing it. Your testimony, today, and from 3 years ago is always fresh in my heart. You, my friend, are a blessing! Much love! Alyssa

Hi Sara, I heard about the recurrence from the Stinchcombs. I remember your encouragement to me (about exactly 2 years ago), at VHBC, when I was in the middle of my own induction therapy. Please be assured to my prayers for you as you beat this thing once more. – Wungram

Sara I can relate to the mouth sores from my own experience. Staying away from toothpaste without sodium laryl sulfate and using a delicate or extra soft toothbrush makes things a little easier. Some Toothpastes w/o SLS are Aqua Fresh, Biotene andSensodyne (except Sensodyne Restore). I found Biotene to be the best due the more mellow mint flavoring and its ability to help with the dry mouth. The toothbrushes are unavailable in stores bc most customers will not buy them. The dental community recommends soft toothbrush never a hard or medium yet stores sell those bc customers buy them. I will call the church today to see where I can leave the toothbrushes for Chris to take home. I was praying for you yesterday. Take careove lynette. Pardon errors I’m on my cell phone
